Help MRP conserve archaeological sites in Belize!

Grey Fox was the home of a Classic period Maya kingdom in northwestern Belize. On the edge of the 500 sq. kms. low-lying area known as the Bajo Alcranes, Grey Fox controlled important agricultural lands and the perennial portion of the Rio Azul. Grey Fox's two large public plazas, both approximately 100 x 100 meters in size, were dominated by a large eastern pyramid and large royal elite residences and viewing galleries. Adjacent to the northern plaza is a likely ballcourt, which, if so, marks Grey Fox as a player in Late Classic period geo-politics in the area.

Thanks to generous donations from our supporters, MRP was able to purchase Grey Fox in 2011 to protect it from destruction. In northwestern Belize there are only 3 remaining centers that have not been badly damaged by bulldozing and Grey Fox is one of them. Located in largely unimpacted forest, Grey Fox is teaming with life including monkeys, tropical birds, and at least one grey fox who has no idea the site was named for him (or her). MRP has worked for two decades to preserve and protect the archaeology of the area and now has implemented a new approach. The best way to protect sites is to own them.

But, we very much need your help! Please help MRP purchase additional sites and conserve them for the future.  Your contribution of $100 will allow us to buy a quarter of an acre....and a $400 donation will buy an entire acre.

If you can help MRP with this important conservation effort - please make a tax deductible donation via our webpage:
